–Harold Jones, 1997
Photographer, curator and photo educator Harold Jones was the founding Director of the Center of Creative Photography (1975-1977) at the University of Arizona, a founder of LIGHT Gallery, New York (1973-1975), and long-term member of the faculty at the University of Arizona. Since the Center for Creative Photography's inaugural exhibition in 1975, Jones, along with other invaluable university members and supporters including Ansel Adams and John P. Schaefer, contributed largely to the expansion and refinement of the initial conception of the Center. They shared a vision to continue the Center's growth by adding to its original archives. Jones sought to bring the CCP's holdings in line with the development and changes eminent in art photography. He hoped to bring the knowledge and creative processes of living art photographers to the Center. In the fall of 1977, Jones became the Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Photography Program in the School of Art at the University of Arizona.
Jones comments, "I have been fortunate in that my life in photography always seemed to open in front of me. Someone was always asking me to do incredible jobs, often ventures that were to happen for the first time. I must credit this path to a remarkable string of good fortune. And I always have loved photography." Harold Jones retired as Professor of Art in the Photography Program at the University of Arizona in May, 2005.
